D ARIN S ULLIV AN D ESIGN

SB Island Visitor Center

Interpretive Exhibit Design  ‣ The National Park Service wanted to engage visitors to Santa Barbara Island with stories of its rich history and to increase understanding of the flora, fauna and geology of the smallest of the California Channel Islands. Our design fuses images, words and artifacts into exhibits that entertain, educate and enlighten viewers. We worked with NPS personnel to convert existing, limited space to house exhibits, a diorama and video station. Interchangeable panels allow for contemporaneous presentation of exhibits according to season to highlight events such as whale migration. Raised, captioned photo mounts are aluminum and serve as handles for panel exchange. Diorama and mural were done in collaboration with John Iwerks. Our work included overall layout, design and installation, interpretive signage and a 3D topographic model.°
